Wikipedia defines fear, in part, as: A feeling of anxiety concerning the outcome of something or the safety and well-being of someone
Sound familiar? How many times have we sat in the back-room as our Guest’s new color formula processes, with our fingers crossed; hoping the hair formula works out? While the Guest is processing; you do the self talk... “I promise to attend a color class I’ve been putting off. I can’t keep doing hair color like this!” Now, I can’t speak for all of you but, I know I was there at one time in my career. From the moment I started my consultation with my Guest; my mind would start racing. While asking the important questions of what they wanted for their hair; I was really thinking, “I hope she asks for something I can do...Can I deliver? I hope they love what I do”...I was a fearful colorist.
The answer for me was knowledge, The more I acquired, the less anxiety I felt. I was sure I had found the secret formula. My clients confidence grew as did mine. Now you can imagine, I am often put in situations when I’m expected to perform where failure is not an option. Pressure... you bet, but a solid foundation is my rock, with it I know I can deliver in any situation. I had become the Fearless Colorist and education was my vehicle.
